It's a phrase you have probably heard from a pulpit: "The youth are the church of tomorrow." It sounds encouraging. But it quietly tells young people to sit and wait their turn.
Scripture tells a different story.
God uses the young
David was a teenager when he faced Goliath. Jeremiah protested that he was "only a child," and God sent him anyway. Timothy led a church while Paul told him:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers." (1 Timothy 4:12)
What this means for the church
- Give real responsibility. Not just ushering, but leading, teaching and serving.
- Listen. Young people see the culture clearly, because they live in it every day.
- Disciple intentionally. Pair passion with wisdom through mentorship.
To every teen reading this: you are not waiting to matter. You matter now. Step up.
